What We Do 

The Planning & Development Department coordinates the Planning, Zoning, Building and Construction Permits, Building Inspections, Code Enforcement, Business License Enforcement, and GIS/Addressing information for the City. Department personnel are responsible for coordinating the review and approval of all land development and building construction projects within the City. Our involvement includes enforcement of the City’s zoning, subdivision, building, and property maintenance codes.

Our goal is to provide accurate information and instructions to citizens, builders, and developers who work in the City of York. The Planning & Development Staff also provides support to the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals, the Historical Commission, and Tree Commission.

New Online Building Permit Application System Now Live

Now Accepting Applications for Boards/Commissions

The City of York is now accepting applications for appointments to Boards and Commissions until September 30, 2023. Applicants must be a City of York resident and have lived in the City for at least one year. The Council will make an appointment during an upcoming Council Meeting for the following vacancy: Board of Architectural Review. More information can be found in the application below. On September 6th, York City Council approved the Second Reading of Ordinance 22-681, Moratorium - Residential Subdivision Development. The Ordinance, among other things, suspends the approval of new residential development projects. On August 3, 2023, York City Council extended the Moratorium (Ordinance 23-700) until October 3, 2023. For more information, please contact the Planning Department.
